World International Women's Day

March 8 / International Women’s Day

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – On this International Women’s Day, we shine a spotlight on Integrated for New Knowledge (INK), a dynamic youth-led Civil Society Organization (CSO) that is making a significant impact in Ethiopia. Despite the challenges posed by a rapidly evolving humanitarian crisis, INK remains committed to empowering women and girls across the nation.

Championing Gender Equality and Empowerment

INK Ethiopia recognizes that gender equality and women’s empowerment are essential for sustainable development. Their tireless efforts focus on:

  1. Survivor Support: Having survived two years of brutal civil war, Ethiopian women and girls face immense challenges. INK provides critical support to survivors of gender-based violence (GBV), ensuring access to services and resources.
  2. Advocacy and Awareness: INK actively advocates for gender-responsive policies and raises awareness about women’s rights. They engage with communities, schools, and local leaders to foster a culture of gender equality.
  3. Youth-Led Initiatives: As a youth-led CSO, INK harnesses the energy and creativity of young people. They organize workshops, mentorship programs, and awareness campaigns to empower the next generation of change-makers.

The Urgency of Action

While the extent of GBV in Ethiopia remains largely unknown, the number of people in need of GBV services increased from 3.5 million in 2021 to a staggering 5.8 million in 2022. INK’s work is crucial in addressing this urgent need.

Collaboration and Resilience

INK Ethiopia collaborates with other CSOs, government agencies, and international partners to amplify their impact. Their resilience in the face of adversity exemplifies the spirit of World Women’s Day: unity, strength, and unwavering commitment to gender equality.

As we celebrate World Women’s Day, let us honor the resilience of organizations like INK Ethiopia, who continue to create positive change despite the odds. Together, we can build a more equitable and empowered world for all.
